Weekend Warriors {Tips and Tricks}

Welcome back to another edition of Weekend Warriors!  This month, my partners in crime and I are bringing you a variety of tips and tricks as they relate to blogging, TpT, and teaching.  Be sure to read all the posts because you never know what kind of wonderful ideas you'll stumble upon!

Today, I thought I would share a tutorial with you!

Please note: this tutorial will likely be most beneficial for PC users.

When bloggers share freebies with their readers via Google Docs, they have uploaded the document using a setting that allows anyone with the link access to the document. Since the document has been shared with you, there is no need to ask the blogger to share it with you.  Yay!  All you need to do is download it and save it to your computer, and this is really easy to do, I promise!

Sidenote: I tried to make you a nice little video and after lots of compressing and processing, it was of terrible quality.  Boo hoo.  So, since "Plan A" didn't work out, I'm going to "Plan B," screen shots!

So, of course, in order to download a freebie from a blog, you need to click on the link to said freebie (see below).  Well, I'll just let the tutorial do the talking!

Sometimes, I will email a document as an attachment.  I do this when I want to save it and print it at school.  I don't have access to Google Docs there, so this is a nice option because I can still access the file and once I open it from my work email, I can then save it to my computer for future use!

Now it's time to test out this tutorial!  I made this homework folder cover for next year's students and I'd love to share it with you.  Simply click {here} to grab a copy!

Here is a picture of how I use this homework cover.  I am very lucky that my school purchases these heavy duty plastic folders with a see through cover, but the homework cover I've shared can also be glued to a standard folder.  Use it however you like!

Don't forget to check out some fun tips and tricks from these super talented teachers!

  1. Nice information about the share button. When I was first starting out I had no clue about that & would hit share all the time. I have since learned I don't need to do that.

  2. Thank you for the information but I am confused.. When I selected file with the download option it downloaded right to my computer as a PDF file without going through all those other steps of saving it. My bigger question is as a person who has a file to share how do I upload it to google docs. I've done it but sometime people say they can't get to it and other times I not sure what I have given access to...Yikes! Scarey! Can this be another tip to add??? Lovin' the education I am getting today!

    1. If it downloaded directly to your computer, you might have selected the "save" option, not the "open" option in the pop up window. I always click the "open" option instead of saving the file directly to my computer because I can never find the file when I do that. Or, you might just have a much fancier computer than me. Hehe. ;)

      As for uploading a document, simply log into Google Docs, and on the left hand side you will see an orange upwards facing arrow. If you hover over this, it gives you the option to select "file." This is how you upload a file that you select from your computer. Once it uploads, a pop up window will appear. Click on the blue word "share" next to the name of your uploaded file in the pop up window. This is where you will select the sharing settings. Select the option that says "Anyone with the link."

      Feel free to email me at primarilyspeaking@gmail.com. I am by no means a Google Docs expert, but I have figured out how to upload and download using this program.

      Have a good one!

  4. Thanks for your tutorial. I, however, use an iPad to do most of my blog checking. When I click on your hyperlink, it opens the document but there is nowhere for me to click download or save. Are you (or anyone else) familiar with how to save it on the iPad?

    1. Hi Christin,

      I may be one of the last few people around who does not own an iPad, so I don't have a lot of experience with documents that are retrieved via Google Docs on that particular device. I did, however, contact my sister in law who does have an iPad and she told me that she is able to save downloaded documents to her Dropbox and/or Evernote apps on her iPad. I don't know if Apple has tutorials on this on their site and/or if there are any on You Tube. If anyone else reading these comments is familiar with downloading Google Docs on the iPad, we would love to hear from you!
